Email from Janice Dutton to Jed, Carlos and Mark - April 25, 2010

Hi Jed, Carlos and Mark - just thought I'd share a little

Driving the back roads of Virginia, stopped to chat with some people about the local flora...  got invited to a music jam that night - part of 'the crooked road' music heritage trail.  They excitedly told me that there is a jam every Friday night - first hour is gospel, then it moves into bluegrass - with many bands playing and people singin' and stompin'.  But they warned me that there's no dancin' the first hour - that's for Jesus.

Sadly I couldn't stay to participate.   And a sign in front of a church (same town)  : "Life is a puzzle, look here for the missing peace."

I was enjoying so much of my own peace, it took me a day and half just to get thru Virigina.  What fun!   Had to move on to visit in Georgia ... and this morning attended Peachtree Road Methodist Church in Atlanta.  Huge - (what used to be the sanctuary when my cousins went there is now a small chapel) and they've built a new sanctuary that could hold a couple of football fields.  It was about 3/4 full (at the early service) and their choir had 60 voices!!!   Beautiful stained glass windows all around, and organ pipes up front and more in behind in the balcony.  Would love to hear you play that one, Mark!  What a sound!

Was an interesting experience, and am very glad to have gone, but it certainly didn't give me that sense of family that we enjoy at South Congo.  We are so lucky - and I thank you all for that.

Oh, and this afternoon - leaving Georgia heading into Tennessee - I finally found a two lane road heading up along a mountain ridge.  Was listening to a gospel station, and just as I first caught sight of the panoramic view of the valley below, they started singing "Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place, I can feel his mighty power and his grace.."  Brought a smile of joy to my face - not that that's hard - been smiling the whole journey.  Having such fun.

Take care,
Janice
